GRANT COUNTY – Yesterday, the National Weather Service issued precipitation totals for Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon. John Day received nearly three-quarters of an inch of precipitation, at .74 inches over that two-day period. That was third place in the entire region for the most rain, following The Dalles at .84 inches and Mecham off I-84 at a soaking 1.36 inches of rain.

SALEM – Plow now, pay later. Legislative leaders are taking decisive steps to secure funding and ensure uninterrupted snow plowing on state highways in Eastern Oregon. Facing budget constraints that could have led to reduced snowplowing, sanding, and salting on certain secondary highways, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) received a commitment from legislative leaders.
Winter Weather Advisory issued in Grant County
PRAIRIE CITY / LONG CREEK / SENECA – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Grant County, beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday. Both the Southern Blue Mountains and the Ochoco-John Day Highlands are under the advisory, including the towns of Long Creek, Prairie City and Seneca. Between 3 and 7 inches of snow is possible over the three-day period, with more possible at elevations above 4,500 feet. Also, winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour.
Grant County company penalized by DEQ for ground storage violation
MT. VERNON – The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a penalty to a Grant County company in violation with an underground storage tank. The civil penaltiy was issued to Triangle Oil, Inc. in Mt. Vernon, who must pay $17,981 to the state treasury or file an appeal within 20 days of receiving notice of the penalty.
