Both will be making their third state appearance. Giesregen won the boys race, finishing first among 102 runners in 16:57.6 over 5,000 meters. The Washburn girls, 2026 Northern Lights Conference champions and 2025 state qualifiers, finished behind Phillips and conference rival Solon Springs. Osceola ends Ashland’s football season with 41-6 playoff win
A late first-half touchdown broke open a close game, and Osceola ended the Ashland Oredockers’ football season with a 41-6 victory in a WIAA Level 1 playoff game Oct. 23 in Osceola. Ashland finishes the season 6-4. Osceola, which has lost once this season and won the Middle Border Conference title, advances to a Level 2 game against unbeaten Heart O’ North Conference champion Northwestern at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in Maple. The game was close into the second quarter, with Osceola leading 7-6. The Chieftains then scored two more touchdowns before halftime, the second with only seconds left in the half. Oredockers head coach Travis Larson said that score sealed Ashland’s fate. “The big score, and one we wish we could have stopped, was their touchdown with a few seconds left before the half,” Larson said. “We played good, not great. The second half we played poor, not good. We needed to force a few turnovers and make some stops on defense that we just couldn’t get.” Larson credited Osceola for holding down Ashland’s often-potent offense and said he is eager to see his players develop into an even stronger unit next season. “It takes consistent effort,” Larson said.
