Independent horror film uses Uptown Janesville mall for filming location

JANESVILLE — The Uptown Janesville mall has been haunted by an increase in kids who are involved in youth hockey and other sports at the adjacent Woodman’s Center, but that’s not very spooky. At least, not as spooky as what’s been going on in the background. Local residents have been talking for weeks about a Wisconsin shopping mall that serves as the filming location for a new, as-yet-unreleased horror film, ”The Space Between.” They say stills and snippets from the film shown in internet teases make it clear: From the concourse’s walkways, to the mall’s center court, it’s clear that the movie was filmed at the Uptown Janesville mall. The talk is true. Julie Cubbage, Uptown Janesville’s onsite manager for owner Rockstep Capital, confirms that Candorem, a regional production crew out of Madison, filmed for several days at the mall, including a stint in September. The film crew shot scenes at the mall exclusively at night. That is because the film itself, “The Space Between,” is a psychological thriller focused on a single night shift for a security guard at a once-bustling shopping mall. ROCKFORD — The Rockford Choral Union will present its 80th annual performances of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” later this month. Since 1945, with the exception of the year the coronavirus pandemic took hold, the Rockford Choral Union has presented Handel’s “Messiah” to the Rockford area community. The tradition was started by a group of singers from various Lutheran churches to provide a warm Christmas welcome to those returning from World War II.
