NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A horse in Tennessee tested positive for rabies after being killed, the Tennessee State Veterinarian confirmed on Wednesday. In October of last year, The Tennessee Department of Agriculture said a horse in Cocke County was euthanized after presenting neurological symptoms. An autopsy report revealed the horse had rabies.

Rafting remains profitable in Cocke County
NEWPORT — The 2023 rafting numbers stood strong showing that rafting continues to bring in money for the county. Cocke County Clerk Shaleé McClure’s rafting growth report shows that during 2023 there were 200,219 paid customers on the Pigeon River. Those customers paid $400,438. Rafting companies paid $5,000 in permit fees. While rafting totals stood strong, it was down slightly from the prior year. In 2022 there were 213,426 paid customers which brought in $426,438. That means in 2023 there were 13,207 fewer paid customers...
