Colorado will enter the 2024 season with massive expectations as the Deion Sanders' hype train continues to build steam throughout the offseason. Despite the Buffaloes finishing last season 4-8, most experts are predicting a massive turnaround in Year 2.

The Buffaloes will open the 2024 season against FCS powerhouse North Dakota State. ESPN's Pete Thamel put the Buffaloes on upset alert in Week 1, as the Bison are known for regularly upsetting FBS programs.

"First of all, they open with North Dakota State, and whoever scheduled that game should be fired," Thamel said. "That is just a negligent, horrible athletic department decision. You do not schedule an FCS game you can lose... You just don't do it.

"North Dakota State might not have been what they were three or four years ago, but they're still excellent. They are going to be sound, and they are going to have the great, still sort of mid-major competitive advantage if we were talking college basketball."

The Bison have won six of the past seven games against FBS opponents, including six straight wins from 2010-2016. Many FBS programs refused to play North Dakota State until Arizona in 2022, which escaped with a 31-28 win in a tightly contested game.

North Dakota State is 9-4 all-time against FBS opponents, including massive upsets over Kansas State and No. 11 Iowa. The Bison also return multiple starters on both sides of the ball after another run to the semifinals of the FCS Playoffs last season.

Colorado will enter the season with multiple question marks along the line of scrimmage, which is where North Dakota State could take advantage. The Buffaloes should not overlook this Week 1 matchup, or the Coach Prime hype train could end before the season even begins.
