Polk County K-9 to receive new body armor in memory of fallen DMPD K-9
DES MOINES, Iowa — A Polk County K-9 now has its own body armor, thanks to a donation in memory of a Des Moines police K-9. K-9 Bax received the present from a nonprofit group whose mission is to protect K-9s. Vested Interest in K-9s is giving the department a protective vest for Bax. It will be embroidered with "In Memory of K-9 Hobbs."

Genesis Youth Foundation, Iowa Workforce Development to host job fair
Genesis Youth Foundation, a nonprofit serving immigrant youths and families, announced it will host a job fair on July 31 in partnership with Iowa Workforce Development. Temperatures in the 90’s to return on Monday
Enjoy the weekend weather as the forecast calls for a return to unseasonably hot conditions to start the new week. National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Ansorge says temperatures will return to less comfortable levels. “We’re looking at temperatures being into the 90’s there were parts of the state starting really Monday Tuesday into Wednesday,” he says. The humidity will make it seem worse. “Humidity will combine to create heat indices that will probably be above 100 at times in portions of the state. That probably won’t be until sometime Monday afternoon will be the first time that maybe occurs and that could then continue on Tuesday as well as into Wednesday,” Ansorge says.

A Des Moines man was arrested and charged for stabbing a man at a hotel in Clive early Friday morning. Clive Police Department officers were dispatched to the Days Inn, 1600 NW 114th St., around 3:30 a.m. for a reported stabbing, police said in a news release. Drake University Announces New Board of Trustee Members
Four new trustees join the Board, three members retire. Drake University is pleased to announce the next class of Board of Trustee members. The four new members include Esfand Dinshaw, Jeff Russell, Nikki Syverson, and Tiffany Tauscheck. The incoming trustees were approved by the Board earlier this year and began their initial three-year term of service on July 1, 2024. Additionally, Larry Zimpleman, Cathy Lacy, and Martha Capps have retired from the Board after completing their terms.
