This barbecue restaurant owner is opening a breakfast and lunch diner outside of Ankeny
A diner outside Ankeny will offer old favorites and more under a new name. Darren and Sherry Warth announced this month they bought the former Sorriso Grille, 7015 N.E. 14th St., in the Carney area just south of Ankeny's city limits. Melinda Strable, the Warth's nearby neighbor who opened the restaurant in 2014, closed Sorriso in April and retired.
15-year-old Ellipsis resident charged with murder in killing of staff member
A 15-year-old Ellipsis Iowa resident has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a staff member there. Jovahn Mathis, who lived at the center for troubled youth in Johnston, has been in custody since he allegedly shoved Kathleen Galloway-Menke, 50, of Des Moines on May 8 outside of the facility, 7085 Northwest Beaver Drive. 3 victims rescued after human trafficking arrest made in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman has been arrested on human trafficking charges and police say three victims have been rescued following a months-long investigation. Huirong Zhou, 42, is being held in the Polk County Jail on three felony charges of human trafficking. She was booked into the jail shortly before 5 p.m. on May 8.
Two People Injured in Crash Near Runnells Wednesday
(Runnells, IA) -- Two people are recovering after a crash near Runnells pushed one vehicle into a creek bed. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says reports of the two-vehicle crash came in around 7pm Wednesday. They say it appears an SUV was rear-ended and pushed off the road into the creek bed. It took crews about 10 minutes to rescue the SUV driver, and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.
