JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — The heat and wind are contributing to more fires in central Iowa in an already long week for firefighters. On Sunday, multiple agencies spent the afternoon fighting a fire off of Interstate 80 in Jasper County, just north of Mitchellville. The call of a grass fire came in around 1 p.m., according to Jasper County Emergency Management.

An Iowa musician is now a proud Guinness World Record holder after helping the soft opening of a West Des Moines music venue hit the right note. Jon Locker, a local bassist, helped kick off the newly renovated Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines with a bang on Monday, February 25th.
