A 15-year-old Ellipsis Iowa resident has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a staff member there. 3 victims rescued after human trafficking arrest made in Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman has been arrested on human trafficking charges and police say three victims have been rescued following a months-long investigation. Huirong Zhou, 42, is being held in the Polk County Jail on three felony charges of human trafficking. She was booked into the jail shortly before 5 p.m. on May 8.

A diner outside Ankeny will offer old favorites and more under a new name. Darren and Sherry Warth announced this month they bought the former Sorriso Grille, 7015 N.E. 14th St., in the Carney area just south of Ankeny's city limits. Melinda Strable, the Warth's nearby neighbor who opened the restaurant in 2014, closed Sorriso in April and retired.

There will be a road detour around the Outlets of Des Moines in Altoona due to construction later this month, affecting access to businesses in the area. The city announced in a news release that a section of Bass Pro Drive Northwest, from south of the access to Fairfield Inn & Suites to the west roundabout, will be closed starting May 28. The closure will impact direct access to the outlet mall and other businesses in the area along Bass Pro Drive.

"I'm disappointed that a bill to spend a portion of Iowa's opioid settlement money never reached my desk this session. As a result, $47.5 million remain unused in the fund ... since legislation was not passed, I'm leveraging federal funds to make this investment in the health and well-being of Iowans," Reynolds said.
