The proposal, advanced by developer Beztak working alongside architect Victor Saroki, has been steadily working through the city's approval process for years and recently cleared two more milestones.

Gorilla photo pinned to worker's locker sparks racial harassment suit
A Southfield woman is suing her former employer, alleging she faced repeated racial harassment, including a picture of a gorilla that was pinned to her work locker. Juanita Porter, who is Black, filed suit against WillScot, an Arizona-based modular space and portable storage company, Nov. 5 in Detroit's federal court. Porter started working for the company in May 2025, as a construction and yard worker at its facility in Brighton, according to the complaint. She said the harassment began during her first week on the job when a trainer allegedly asked her, “How many police officers does it take to screw a light bulb?” When Porter did not respond, the trainer added, “None because they would just get a black person and beat the black off of him and have him do it," the lawsuit states. In July 2025, Porter's supervisor made a reference to lynchings while another coworker told her that she "could not stand … black and old" people," according to the complaint. In August, a coworker complained about having to provide additional training for Porter, allegedly telling a supervisor "I'm not training this black b---- and she probably can't read and Imaa get that b---- fired," according

2 wounded at Warren home after firearm accidentally discharges
Two people at a Warren home were wounded Wednesday after a firearm accidentally discharged, police said. A 37-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy related to him suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. Both were taken to a hospital, treated and released, they said. Warren police officers were called at about 8:20 p.m. to a home in the 3900 block of Berkshire Avenue near Ryan and Toepfer roads for a report of a shot fired, officials said. According to a preliminary investigation, the man was cleaning a handgun for his sister when it discharged. The round struck the man in his hand, ricocheted off the floor, and then struck an 11-year-old boy in the calf, police said. Officials also said the incident remains under investigation. The incident came weeks after a Detroit man was charged in connection with the nonfatal shooting of his 11-year-old son by another child. Michigan passed a safe storage law that went into effect in February 2024 and requires people to keep unattended guns unloaded and locked with a locking device or stored in a locked container if it is reasonably known that a child is likely to be present. cramirez@detroitnews.com @CharlesERamirez This article originally appeared on

Man injured in hit-and-run at a Warren White Castle, police say
A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday outside a Warren fast-food restaurant, police said. Officers were called at about 7:30 p.m. to the White Castle restaurant on East Eight Mile Road at Sherwood Avenue for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian, according to authorities. They arrived and found a 33-year-old man suffering from serious injuries in the parking lot, officials said. Medics took him to a hospital, police said. Detectives believe the victim may have been struck by a sedan after an argument with someone, who then fled the area, officials said. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect driver should call the Warren Police Department at (586) 574-4700. The incident follows other recent hit-and-run crashes in Michigan. On Oct. 26, a man in his 40s was struck by a vehicle in the East Grand Boulevard and Frederick Street area on Detroit's east side. Police are offering a $1,000 reward for tips that help them identify the driver.
