Man arrested on burglary, public intoxication charges
The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning:. On Sunday March 3, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Brownwood Police Department began receiving phone calls from citizens about a prowler. The initial call came from a homeowner in the 300 block of Lori Lane. The female resident explained how she confronted a male in her backyard, who then walked away while cursing at the female. A short time later, another call came in from a residence on FM 2126 (Austin Avenue). The caller reported a male subject trying door handles to a shed in her backyard. The male was confronted by the caller’s husband, who chased the male toward FM 45 (Access Road).

Brownwood Community Garden February Report
Each year both good and bad bugs have an impact on the Brownwood Community Garden. Some make us cringe when we spot them or the effects that they have on our plants. Others we welcome with open arms. We’re starting to see the return of one of our favorite bugs or at least the effects of a much welcomed bug. As temperatures began to rise after the often cool and dreary days of winter, we start to notice this change. It appears people around town are being bitten by the “gardening bug” and are making their way to the Community Garden. Old faces and new faces are showing up, and we’re thrilled either way. The Garden is starting to come back to life in many different ways.
Texas Water Development Board Projects in Brown County
Last week we published a story about Brownwood native Jeff Walker, who is retiring this month as Executive Administrator of the Texas Water Development Board. The TWDB is charged with developing a “secure water future for Texas.” One of their functions is to “Administer cost-effective financial programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agriculture conservation projects.” Three water projects in Brown County were financed by the Texas Water Development Board:

Paving activities will be conducted at the intersection of FM 2524 and US 377, specifically at the crossing known as Austin & Main. Additionally, work will include ramps both at the Bill Monroe Overpass and under the Truman Harlow Overpass. Motorists are advised to plan for alternate routes to avoid delays and to exercise increased caution when driving in or near the designated work zones during this time.

Four members of the Early Lady Horns powerlifting team qualified for state based off their performances at the regional meet in Dublin over the weekend. Alexa Hernandez, Julienne Socong, Matty Boswell and Rayana Barzart earned berths in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Class 3A State Meet, which will take place Thursday, March 14 in Frisco.

BFD responds to structure fire at Canidae
The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Friday morning:. At 8:36 pm, the Brownwood Fire Department was called to 3101 SF Austin, Canidae in Brownwood for a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews were presented with heavy smoke that was coming from the roof. A offensive fire attack was made with using the city’s ladder truck, and with the use of hand lines inside the structure. The fire was stopped, preventing any major damage to the surrounding buildings. The fire was contained to the equipment involved, the equipment sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but has been determined to be unintentional in nature.
