Metro Phoenix has a McDonald's with rare arches. Have you seen it?
By now, many people may know about the iconic McDonald's blue arches in Sedona . But that's not the only location in Arizona that breaks away from the fast food restaurant's signature yellow look. In Scottsdale, a McDonald’s at DC Ranch Crossing, near Pima Road and Legacy Boulevard, stands out for its black arches — one of only two McDonald’s locations in the world featuring that look. According to Luis Parra Cruz, the store’s general manager, the design choice wasn’t about making a statement, but more about fitting in. The Scottsdale mall has design guidelines intended to "match the surrounding area," he said, and the black arches were required to "comply with those standards." The restaurant, which has been open for about 12 years, may not draw the same level of attention as Sedona’s famous location off State Route 89A, but it still holds a rare distinction. Worldwide, only four McDonald’s locations feature arches in colors other than the traditional yellow. Aside from the dark arches, however, the Scottsdale McDonald’s is just like any other, from the interior design to its menu. Is there a McDonald's with black arches in Arizona? Yes. Of all the new metro Phoenix restaurants to try, eat at these 3 first
Every month, metro Phoenix’s dining scene shifts in small but meaningful ways. Now feels like the right moment to highlight a few places that have been pulling me back. Only one of these restaurants is a true newcomer, but the other two — both about a year old — have recently hit their stride, the kind of late bloom that makes a return visit feel essential. One is a tiny West Valley counter where Italian-style sandwiches crackle and melt in all the right ways. Another is a Chandler spot built on mesquite‑fired Peruvian chicken and sauces that wake up every bite. And the third is a polished North Phoenix dining room giving Levantine cooking a modern, elegant twist. Of all the restaurants worth seeking out right now, here are the three to try first. AGourmet Fine Sandwiches Tucked between a swim school and a pet shop, this tiny West Valley sandwich shop is turning out some of the best Italian-style sandwiches in metro Phoenix — and maybe the closest thing to what you'd get in Sicily. Husband-and-wife team Adrian and Carmen Moisoiu import their salumi from Italy, their focaccia dough from New Jersey and their pinsa dough from Rome, then
