Wake, Bake, and Ska, Less Than Jake anticipates homecoming shows
For Less Than Jake, returning to Gainesville for the popular Wake and Bake Festival is more than a homecoming show, it's a celebration. Ahead of the band’s Feb. 27 show in Bristol, England, Less Than Jake lead singer and guitarist Chris DeMakes spoke with The Sun about the band’s upcoming Gainesville performances March 13-14. "It's Less Than Jake's celebration of all things Gainesville. We've always flown the flag for the city of Gainesville, our hometown and a direct celebration of that," DeMakes said of the festival. The legendary Gainesville born ska-punk band will perform two shows during the festival at Vivid Music Hall. Teenage Bottlerocket and Voodoo Glowskulls will open both shows, while Bite Me Bambi will join the March 13 lineup. The Boy Detective and Joker’s Republic will open March 14. Doors open at 6 p.m. March 13 and 5:30 p.m. March 14.. DeMakes told The Sun in March 2025 that the festival's name is derived from Gainesville's relationship with marijuana. This year’s Wake and Bake Festival also doubles as an anniversary celebration for the band.
