Newberry passes first reading of big box store zoning in progress
The Newberry city commission voted Monday to approve the first reading of an ordinance to create a “Zoning-in-Progress” for big box retail stores. The commission first discussed zoning regulations for big box stores at its regular meeting on March 11. Commissioners approached the topic with varying ideas on how to regulate the stores and eventually determined it would be beneficial to hold a workshop on the topic.

Newberry baseball travel team asks city commissioners to reconsider eviction for their facility
NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) - Parents and children filled the Newberry City Hall asking the Newberry City commission to reconsider evicting the ‘Elite Pro-ball Academy’. In 2012, Cedrick Bowers began coaching the baseball travel team in Newberry. The organization has more than 200 players from all ages. Years later, Bowers was notified by the city attorney, that the building was behind on property taxes.
Firefighters rescue cow trapped in sinkhole in Alachua County
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) - A cow is back with its herd after firefighters rescued the bovine from a sinkhole in Alachua County on Monday evening. Just before 7 p.m., a resident called 911 reporting a cow was trapped in a hole off County Road 236 in High Springs. Firefighters arrived within minutes and found a 1,200-pound cow more than 20 feet down a hole. It was standing in water about chest depth.
