Newberry passes first reading of big box store zoning in progress
The Newberry city commission voted Monday to approve the first reading of an ordinance to create a “Zoning-in-Progress” for big box retail stores. The commission first discussed zoning regulations for big box stores at its regular meeting on March 11. Commissioners approached the topic with varying ideas on how to regulate the stores and eventually determined it would be beneficial to hold a workshop on the topic.
4 women accused of abducting child in Melbourne after holding mother at knifepoint
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Four women have been arrested in Melbourne after allegedly kidnapping a 6-year-old at knifepoint, according to local news outlets. WTVJ-TV reports that on Friday morning, 32-year-old Eva, 22-year-old Ingris, 30-year-old Marcia and 24-year-old Dilia Ical, attacked the child's mother before driving away with the child more than 200 miles north to Columbia County.
Newberry baseball travel team asks city commissioners to reconsider eviction for their facility
NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) - Parents and children filled the Newberry City Hall asking the Newberry City commission to reconsider evicting the ‘Elite Pro-ball Academy’. In 2012, Cedrick Bowers began coaching the baseball travel team in Newberry. The organization has more than 200 players from all ages. Years later, Bowers was notified by the city attorney, that the building was behind on property taxes.
