Ex-Michigan corrections officer pleads guilty to having machine gun

LANSING — The former Michigan corrections officer who was the subject of years of complaints from neighbors about explosions and gunfire on his property has pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge. Casey Wagner, 34, of Ionia Township, pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun — a 10-year felony — in federal court in Lansing on Nov. 4, court records show. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Hala Jarbou ordered a pre-sentence report and scheduled sentencing for Feb. 24 in Lansing, records show. Michael Taylor, Wagner's Flint attorney, did not immediately respond to a Nov. 6 email and telephone messages seeking comment. A federal grand jury indicted Wagner May 21 on several charges , including possession of sawed-off weapons, possession of a machine gun, and unlawful possession of a firearm while a user of controlled substances. Under a plea deal with prosecutors filed in federal court, Wagner will be sentenced on the machine gun charge and the other charges will be dropped. No agreement has been reached on what sentence prosecutors will recommend, according to the plea agreement. Wagner has been on home detention, with electronic monitoring, while the case proceeds.
