    Special Meeting of Beckley City Council cancelled

    BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Special Meeting of members of Beckley’s Common Council will not be held as originally planned on Tuesday.

    News of the development came late Tuesday morning, with the probable absence of several members of council having been cited as the reason for the last-minute change.

    “Due to three of seven members of Council being unable to attend and several items of business for review [having] not received a response by those involved in the agreements, the Special Council Meeting for today, May 7th at 6:30 has been cancelled,” read a statement released on behalf of the city.

    The planned agenda for the session was dense with agenda items, including, “Second reading and public hearing of An Ordinance To Provide For An Amendment To The Traffic Control Map/Other Than Parking, And Traffic Control File Requiring Vehicles Traveling On Bostick Avenue To Stop At
    The Intersection Of Bostick Avenue And Hartley Avenue,” “First Reading of Ordinance authorizing sale of 2 acres of real estate located off of Clarence W. Meadows Blvd.,” and many more.

    It is unclear at the time of writing if and when the session will see rescheduling.

    2. Reading and approval of minutes from the April 23, 2024, regular Council
    meeting.
    3. Reading and approval of minutes from the April 29, 2024, Workshop
    regarding FOL lease.

    5. Paul Hutchinson discussing the City and Chamber continuing partnership on
    gateways.
    6. First reading of an ordinance to approve Thrasher’s proposal in the amount of
    $480K as a lump sum fee for the scope of services for the Pinecrest Business
    Park.
    7. Second reading and public hearing of An Ordinance To Provide For An
    Amendment To The Traffic Control Map/Other Than Parking, And Traffic
    Control File Requiring Vehicles Traveling On Bostick Avenue To Stop At
    The Intersection Of Bostick Avenue And Hartley Avenue.

    9. Reappointment of Jane Haga, DeeDee Ellison, Sandy Palen, Willie Taggart,
    and Viki Webb to the Beautification Commission (3-year term).
    10. Reappointment of Valerie Hartling to the Raleigh County Public Library
    Board of Trustees (5-year term).
    11. Reappointment of Gary Sutphin to the Beckley Housing Authority Board of
    Commissioners (5-year term).
    12. Reappointment of Marie Bechtel and Quirina Bullock to the Hunam Rights
    Commission (3-year term).
    13. Reappointment of William Brown to the Emergency Operating Center
