Cult favorite fried chicken chain opening 12 new stores this month

Raising Cane’s is winging its way to 10 states this month. The seasoned fried chicken chain has said cluck yeah to 12 new locations across the states — with two opening up on Nov. 2. The Louisiana-based brand — known for its chicken fingers, Cane’s Sauce and Texas toast — will set up shop in new areas like Brick, New Jersey, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Currently, the chicken joint is slinging its dishes across 1,000 locations in the US with most nestled in Texas with 201 stores, followed by California with 147, Louisiana holding 63 and 65 in Ohio. On Monday, Nov. 2, a fire was reported at Village Coffeehouse in North Raleigh, prompting the business’ closure for until further notice, according to a post on the business’ social media . It’s the latest in a number of setbacks for coffee shops across the Triangle, which are experiencing struggles for a variety of reasons. In addition to the Village Coffeehouse fire, The Optimist Raleigh announced chapter 11 bankruptcy, Bad Brain Coffee Co. faces relocation and Parallax Coffee will close its Wendell location at the end of the year. On Monday, Oct. 26, Andrew Ward, owner of Optimist Raleigh, took to social media to share the news of the bankruptcy filing. “We will continue to operate normally going forward,” The Optimist said in a social media post. “Staff will be paid. Coffee and food will be served and nothing will change, especially in the interim. The restaurant review website said the results published Oct. 29 highlight the “most-loved spots in the U.S. for classic and trending Indian flavors.” Lime & Lemon Indian Grill & Bar in Chapel Hill’s Meadowmont Village shopping center ranked highest among the Triangle spots at No. 18 on Yelp’s list. A Chapel Hill favorite returns in time for Thanksgiving meals and holiday gifts

Fans of Tonya’s Cafe and Bakeshop will be able to order meals and pies from a new, temporary Chapel Hill location in time for Thanksgiving, the restaurant announced Wednesday. Owner Tonya Council was forced to close the Chapel Hill cafe after a Sept. 19 fire caused significant damage, including from water and smoke. The storefront in The Galleria shopping center at 400 S. Elliott Road is undergoing renovations and no opening date has been announced. While there’s no word yet on when Tonya’s Cafe and Bakeshop will reopen, Tonya Council and her staff are moving forward with a pop-up location by mid-November, just in time for the holidays. The new Tonya’s Bakeshop & Gifts will open on the first floor of 900 Willow, next to Silverspot Theater at University Place mall. It will offer Council’s signature pecan crisp cookies, other desserts, holiday gift boxes and Southern specialty foods, according to a news release. The storefront will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and will also serve as a pickup location for pre-ordered Thanksgiving meals, a la carte sides and pies and Take & Bake orders.
