Construction on Yellowstone Avenue to begin next week
POCATELLO — The Idaho Transportation Department will begin replacing damaged concrete on Yellowstone Avenue, U.S. Highway 91, on Monday evening. Work will begin at the intersection of Yellowstone Avenue and Flandro Drive, according to a news release from ITD. There will be several detours near Costco in order to create a safe work zone for construction crews. During the project, there will be no right turns onto Yellowstone from eastbound Flandro Drive when leaving Costco. Drivers visiting Costco will need to use the parking lot exit to the south. There will also be no left turns on Flandro Drive for drivers going toward Costco from Yellowstone Avenue. Drivers will need to use Quinn Road and Hiline Road. The pedestrian crosswalk on the southwest side of the intersection near Costco will be closed during the project, and pedestrians will need to detour to Pearl Street instead. Traffic is expected to remain in this pattern through October, and the project is expected to be completed at some point in 2027. Yellowstone Avenue provides access to many businesses, residences and services. Several areas have deteriorated due to heavy use. The new concrete is expected to last 20 years. Pocatello's Haunted History Tours return to kick off Halloween season featuring downtown's warehouse district
POCATELLO — The wailing whispers of wraiths will echo in Historic Downtown’s warehouse district when the annual Haunted History Tours return Saturday and into the Halloween season. Attendees of the popular downtown event, now in its 16th year, will tour four warehouse district buildings that are normally closed or restricted to the public, including two basement levels. Nothing is staged, and no actors are waiting in the shadows, so any frights guests experience could be paranormal in nature. “We don’t have ghosts in the corners and people popping out at you,” said Stephanie Palagi, president and CEO of Historic Downtown Pocatello. “None of this is staged.” Opening night is Saturday, Oct. 3. The tours return on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 24. Groups leave every 30 minutes from 6 to 8 p.m., starting at the Avenue Event Center at the Museum of Clean, 711 S. Second Ave. Each group follows a guide on a walk of about 10 blocks through the streets and buildings of the district. Organizers suggest guests arrive 10 minutes before their tour starts. At each location, guests will have the chance to explore sections of the building while they learn historical facts and details about one

City provides update on Hiline Road and Signalization Improvement Project
POCATELLO — The south side of the intersection of Hiline Road, Pearl Street and El Rancho Boulevard closed Wednesday, Sept. 30, as part of the Hiline Road and Signalization Improvement Project. Detour signs will be posted to direct traffic through the construction area, according to a news release from the city of Pocatello. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious while driving through the detours and plan for more travel time. The north side of the intersection is nearly finished. The existing four-way stop will be replaced with a traffic signal and other improvements that are intended to enhance safety, accessibility and traffic flow. The other improvements include dedicated turn lanes, widening part of Hiline Road, new storm drainage, upgraded sidewalks and improved pedestrian ramps to enhance accessibility. Construction for this project is financed through a $2 million Strategic Initiatives Grant from the Idaho Transportation Department.
