ALDI, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Hampton Inn Coming to Alpena Soon
Alpena has some new businesses coming to town. “We have some ongoing projects that are looking to come to fruition. The first of them is out on the thirty-two corridor, one being ALDI’s. ALDI’s is getting to the point they’ve just announced that they are having a grand opening. I believe it to be June 6th. So, there will be another grocer introduced into our community,” Alpena Township Supervisor, Nathan Skibbe said.

Individuals and families trying to find housing in northeast Michigan know there are a myriad of challenges with our housing market for both renters and potential homebuyers. The stock of affordable housing in Alpena has dwindled due to many factors, “so currently my team and I are partnering with a great organization like Habitat, and we’re going to be building ten homes in five counties of northeastern Michigan,” Economic Development Coordinator, Lenny Avery said.

Two Contractors Battle Out the Bid at Alpena City Council Meeting
In the last city council meeting, tensions were running high as two local contractors were bidding on the same street project in Alpena. “There is some local roadwork that will be starting soon. Near downtown, it will be our Second Avenue project and that’s goes from Fletcher to Hueber Street. And that is a project that’s been long coming. It’s water and sewer, street curb lines, drainage, everything. It’s a big project. It affects a lot of people, but it’s been spent needed for quite some time.” Alpena City Engineer, Stephen Shultz said.

Alpena high school had an awards banquet to honor the top performing students in their career and technical education programs. “The students that were the top in each one of the 11 programs received a congratulatory gift from a local business and industry, as well as a medal and certificate and a laser engraved CTE mug” said Ron Worth, CTE work based learning coordinator at Alpena Public Schools.
