Major League Baseball’s top prospect had a short stint in the majors, and sometimes, that’s just how the game goes. Jackson Holliday, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, arrived to Baltimore recently to fanfare. But he’s had a tough go at the Major League level and hasn’t caught up to pitching.

After a rough start, the Orioles decided to send him back down to Triple-A Norfolk.

“The Orioles have optioned Jackson Holliday back to Triple-A,” Yahoo Sports said Friday afternoon. Yahoo then included his stats over ten games in the bigs. Holliday hit just .059 with only two hits and 18 strikeouts.

Even former No. 1 picks will struggle at the big league level sometimes. Baseball’s a really hard sport. So, from that angle, it’s not surprising that Holliday struggled at the plate. It takes time. There’s a lot of hype around him, being the son of a former All-Star, but things will have to be tempered now.

All things considered, that’s probably for the best.

Holliday will continue on in Triple-A Norfolk. The Tides are one of the best Minor League baseball teams. So it’s not like he’ll have a hard time down there. We’ll return to do this when they feel he’s ready. And we’ll see if Jackson Holliday is really ready when he faces big-league pitching again.
