Two superstars are emerging out of the 2024 NBA Playoffs: Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks.

Brunson starred brightly during the Knicks’ first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers. He became the first player in NBA playoff history to score at least 40 points and record five assists in four consecutive playoff games on Monday night. Once a backup point guard in Dallas, Brunson has transformed into an elite guard and has been the heart of the Knicks offense.

Edwards, meanwhile, has been hauntingly good during the T’Wolves’ playoff run. Minnesota swept Phoenix and Edwards was instrumental in that four-game sweep. They hold a commanding 2-0 edge on the reigning champion Denver Nuggets. Ant is a big reason why, as he’s averaged 32 points during these Playoffs.

So, who’s the better of the two? On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN personality Mike Greenberg weighed in with his answer: Jalen Brunson.

“The answer is Brunson because Anthony Edwards what it seemed his destiny was to do,” Greenberg said. Edwards was a former No. 1 pick out of the University of Georgia while Brunson, a two-time National Champion at Villanova, had to wait until the second round to be picked.

“Maybe he’s getting there a little sooner, and maybe he has a higher ceiling. Ultimately, he might be on his way to being the best player in the world. What Jalen Brunson is doing is shocking,” Greenberg said.

“Maybe he did, maybe his dad did, and that’s about it. There’s no way in hell Leon Rose, who can take the bow of all bows for that signing – which is one of the best contract signings that any team in the NBA in maybe ever – there’s no way he said, ‘Oh, he’s going to be the best player int he entire league in the biggest moments of the season.’ But that’s what he is.

“Jalen Brunson has been the best player in the playoffs,” Greenberg said, rattling off names like Edwards and Tyrese Maxey. “Nobody has been better than Jalen Brunson and nobody saw that coming.”
