Ladurée, the pastel-colored macaron shop that began in Paris in 1862, is opening another New York location at 20 Hudson Yards, on the first level, starting May 4, according to a spokesperson. The first New York Ladurée opened on the Upper East Side in 2011, followed by a Soho location with a full-service restaurant in 2014. The original Parisian shop was founded more than 160 years ago by Louis-Ernest Ladurée, a miller, whose pastry chef, Pierre Desfontaines, is often credited with inventing macarons. Over the years, the brand, known in particular for its fancy packaging and array of colorful desserts, has become a fashion symbol in its own right, with bakeries styled like boutiques. In fact, in 2006, Kristen Dunst gave an interview when promoting her film Marie Antoinette, which used the bakery’s macarons as props in the film, and said: “Sofia [Coppola] and I kick ourselves; we should have invested in Ladurée after Marie Antoinette …We made macarons hot again.”

Look for African, Caribbean, and Asian-leaning dishes like Scotch bonnet fried chicken, escovitch lobster, and oxtail lo mein on the menu.
