Students receive hundreds of backpacks from Castle Family Health
Castle Family Health Centers returned this summer with yet another backpack giveaway for local elementary students. The annual event provides a hub for families to get supplies and information they need to be best prepared for the upcoming school year that starts in August. While Castle runs the event, a number of other local agencies and resources were present to provide information and goodies to attendees.

New Administrative Services Building at Merced school
Teachers and administrators celebrated the completion of a brand new Administrative Services Building at Franklin Elementary School.The 3,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art structure serves as the new home for all office personnel, the school nurse and administrative staff.It was also moved closer to the school parking lot, making it more accessible and safe for kids and parents."It's a better access for our students, it's easier for our parents to drop off our students and picking them up after school," says principal Cesar Hernandez.The project also includes school-wide technology upgrades and three brand-new modular classrooms.Starting with the 2025 school year, construction will begin on a new Kindergarten wing for Franklin Elementary.

Some Merced residents are already noticing the new Honorary Historic District markers that are going up on top of street signs in the Spaghetti Acres neighborhood of Merced. Some 55 markers are being installed in the historic neighborhood surrounding Fremont Elementary School, roughly bounded by R Street, 18th Street and Bear Creek.
