2025 Georgia tight end commit becomes consensus 5-star recruiting rating

It's not often we see a transcendent talent at the tight end position, but it's easy to see why the nation's brightest young stars are attracted to Georgia. 2025 hard commit Elyiss Williams is headed to the Georgia Bulldogs despite pushes from Florida and Auburn. This week, he saw his consensus ranking rise into clear 5-star territory as recruiting services updated their grades.

Elyiss Williams Becomes Consensus 2025 5-Star Recruit

The 6-foot-7, 235-pound athlete is universally considered one of the nation's few recruits with a 5-star rating from all major services. The Kingsland, Georgia, native has natural hands-catching ability and game-breaking athleticism. He would project as a high-end pass-rusher, if he focused on that side of the ball.

Instead, Kirby Smart seems happy to giving tight ends coach Todd Hartley two top-end threats at the position. The Bulldogs have a second tight end commitment in the 2025 class. Ethan Barbour is ranked just three points lower than Williams, so the Alpharetta product is also impressive.

    At 6-foot-3, 235 points, he's more built like 2024 first-round pick Brock Bowers .

Georgia's looking to reload with an impressive array of 4-star commitments in next year's class. QB Ryan Montgomery, IOL Mason Short, RB Bo Walker, and both tight ends round out Smart's vision for the roster's future.

The reports on Williams are especially fun, given what Georgia has accomplished with Bowers and Darnel Washington in recent years. According to Gabe Brooks of 247Sports, Williams is a "consistent hands catcher with a titanic catch radius. Flashes impressive get-off from an attached alignment. Big stride and functional athleticism foster build-up speed that provides particularly dangerous sideline verticals and seam shots."

Giving future QBs like Jaden Rashada or Gunner Stockton that type of threat is a recipe for major success. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has done an excellent job incorporating top talent into his scheme, melding what his available playmakers do best into an advanced set of plays.

Of course, when you have the size and radius that Williams has and Washington brought to the table, complexity is unnecessary. And the functionality that Georgia operates with and maximizes is why players like Williams opt to go ith the Bulldogs over the competition. While Georgia is sending players to the NFL, Alabama hasn't had nearly the same success in recent years at playmaking positions.
