PennDOT plans pipe replacement closures in Bradford County

Sheshequin Township, Pa. — Drivers are advised that starting next week, a portion of Shores Road (Route 1020) will be closed each day in Sheshequin and Rome townships, Bradford County, for pipe replacements. Starting Thursday, Sept. 10, Shores Road will be closed each day between Ghent Hill Road (Route 1022) and Crowley Hollow Road (T-720) while a PennDOT maintenance crew performs pipe replacements. A detour using Ghent Hill Road and Lake Road (Route 1029) will be used between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Work on the project is anticipated to be completed Wednesday, Sept. 16, weather permitting. No work is planned for Saturday or Sunday. Drivers should be alert, reduce speeds, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution. D.O.T. Work In Two Different Areas In Steuben County

FROM THE N.Y.S.D.O.T.: The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 417 from Hardy Road in the Town of Jasper to State Route 248 in the Town of Greenwood, Steuben County, will be reduced to a single lane, with alternating flows of traffic controlled by flaggers, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting Tuesday, September 8, to accommodate a pavement project. Work is anticipated to be complete by Saturday, September 12, weather permitting. Motorists should anticipate travel delays during this time and are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.

Broome County ranks among least expensive commutes in NY state: Study

New York commuters face some of the nation's highest estimated costs in lost time getting to and from work, with the value of commuting time exceeding $12,000 a year in several downstate counties, according to an analysis by Opus Virtual Offices based on U.S. Census Bureau data. The study estimated the value of commuting time by comparing average travel times with local full-time wages. New York County, which includes Manhattan, had the state's highest estimated annual commuting-time value at $12,789, based on roughly 250 hours spent traveling to and from work each year. New York County ranked sixth nationally among the 2,192 counties included in the study. New York overall ranked fourth among the 50 states for the estimated annual value of commuting time, at an average of $8,873 per commuter, according to the study. Twelve New York counties ranked among the 100 counties with the highest estimated annual commuting costs nationwide. The least expensive commute in New York was in Jefferson County in the North Country. The study valued commuters' time there at $3,809 a year, based on an estimated 156 hours of commuting.
