State Historical Society of Missouri features new exhibit on Native American art portrayals
COLUMBIA, Mo - A new exhibition at the State Historical Society of Missouri will show visitors how Native American people have been represented in art. "Indigenous Identities Today: Art, Culture, and Connection to Place" brings together 36 lithographic portraits from "History of the Indian Tribes of North America." The portraits are created by Euro-American artists Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall in addition to works by Indigenous artists from the early 20th century to today. Together these works encourage visitors to consider how representation, power, and perspective shape historical understanding.
