Weather alert for thunderstorms in New York Monday afternoon
The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 12:05 p.m. on Monday for thunderstorms until 1:15 p.m. for Seneca, Cayuga and Tompkins counties. "Gusty showers and storms west of I-81 will continue a fast-moving eastward track across Central NY. Strong to severe storms are expected to develop in the afternoon, and last through late evening. Primary threats include wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, hail, and the possibility of an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out," according to the weather service.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout Memorial Day with a few breaks possible. Heavy downpours and gusty winds will be possible with a few of the thunderstorms, so be weather aware today. Highs will be in the mid to upper-70s as the warm front continues to move to the north. A few showers and thunderstorms stick around tonight as temperatures fall into the mid to upper-70s. Showers and thunderstorms do continue into Tuesday and Wednesday behind the passage of the cold front Monday night. They will become more scattered as the system pulls away. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s Tuesday and upper-60s on Wednesday. Plenty of sunshine will end out the week as high pressure takes over the region. Thursday's high will be in the mid to upper-60s followed by the lower-70s on Friday. Clouds begin to move in Saturday with highs in the mid to upper-70s. Our next system will bring the chance for showers for the second half of the weekend with temperatures in the upper-70s.
