The New Jersey Historic Trust has recommended Help Our Preservation Effort (H.O.P.E.) for a grant from the Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund, for restoration work on the Crusen House, in the Historic District of Hope, NJ. H.O.P.E. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the architecture and Moravian heritage of the village of Hope. The grant would provide funding to restore all of the windows in the Crusen House and replace or restore the building’s four exterior doors.

AWSOM's expansion project clears another hurdle in Stroud Township

The Animal Welfare Society of Monroe is one paw closer to an expansion which will effectively double its size. Stroud Township’s planning commission recommended approval for AWSOM’s preliminary and final land development during its Oct. 28 meeting, leaving just a few details to address before work can commence in spring 2027. The township supervisors will make a final decision on the matter at their Nov. 17 meeting. Rich Homar, president of AWSOM’s board of directors, said there are a few technical issues to deal with for the land development, though he did say they were “small modifications” and other minor details. Homar said some of the issues raised during the township’s September zoning hearing board meeting have been dealt with already. More: AWSOM secures two key approvals from Stroud zoning board for expansion “We did have the septic evaluation and inspection done by Allstate Septic, and then reading the meter to make sure our septic system was capable of handling the additional facility,” Homar said. “We’re averaging 500 gallons a day; the system has the capacity to do 800 gallons, so we’re anticipating we should be well under the daily capacity of the septic system with the new addition.” Homar
