The former Apollo Middle School in Burlington will undergo significant rehabilitation thanks to the Iowa Historic Preservation Tax Credit program. The Iowa Economic Development Authority this week announced more than $18 million in tax credits geared toward revitalizing historic buildings across the state, including the vacant school. After sitting vacant for decades, officials said the three-story building will be transformed into 45 affordable one and two bedroom apartments for residents 55 and older. Other buildings in Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Waterloo and Ottumwa were also awarded funding for similar projects.

The Iowa high school football playoff picture has narrowed to the final eight teams in each class as teams get set for the state quarterfinals . After the Round-of-16, just three Iowa City-area teams remain alive and will now battle for a spot in next week's state semifinal. Last week, Iowa City Liberty went to Indianola and came away with a 28-14 win behind another strong offensive performance. Solon took down Fairfield at home as Maddox Kelley proved again he's hard to slow down. And Regina, which plays its best at home, took care of Sigourney Keota, 49-13. The Spartans and Regals get one last playoff game at home, and with a win, will travel to UNI-Dome. Meanwhile, Liberty will travel to Ankeny to try and pull off another upset and advance to the state semifinals. Here are the Iowa City Press-Citizen's predictions for the IHSAA quarterfinals . The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes saw their football season come to an end Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the IHSA Class 1A playoffs. CORALVILLE — Clear Creek-Amana is headed to its second Iowa high school state volleyball championship game in four years after sweeping Davenport Assumption in the Class 4A semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Xtream Arena. The 3-seed Clippers overpowered the No. 2 seed Knights from the start, winning 25-17, 25-22 and 25-12 to earn a date with No. 1 Norwalk in the 4A championship match on Thursday, Nov. 5. CCA was highly motivated after losing to Assumption, 2-1, during the Iowa City West Invite on Sept. 12. "We wanted to make sure that they didn't remember us the way that we played the last time we played them," said Clear Creek Amana coach Jackie Clubb. "We wanted to make sure we hung in there and controlled the game as much as possible. You've just got to be ready to go. They were." The Clippers outclassed Assumption in the rematch. They cruised in the first set, hung tough in the second and then dropped the hammer in the third set. CCA jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the third set, and Assumption never stood a chance.
