Galesburg fire leaves home ‘total loss’
A fire in Galesburg left a home a ‘total loss.’. On March 28 at 1:17 p.m., the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a property in the 200 block of N. Broad St. The response included three stations and 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke coming from the residence. Battalion Chief Brackett established command, and fire crews used multiple lines to make entry and attempt to extinguish the fire. Crews encountered heavy fire, heat and smoke conditions and were forced to back out of the structure. The crew utilized an exterior fire attack to extinguish the fire and protect a nearby residence.

MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS (March 28, 2024) — Caleb Toberman navigated a potential travel snafu to have one of the more memorable spring breaks for a Monmouth College student. The senior from Clifton, Illinois, earned second team All-American honors in the weight-throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 8 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, then managed to fly back to Chicago in time to join the Monmouth Chorale as it departed March 9 for an eight-day performance tour of Greece.
Graceland President Accepts President’s Position At Monmouth College
The Graceland University Board of Trustees has selected an Interim President after an announcement on Wednesday that Graceland President Dr. Patricia Draves has accepted a position at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. She will leave Graceland this summer. With that announcement, Graceland’s Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Michael Wiley has announced that Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joel Shrock, will serve as the Interim President. Dr. Shrock joined Graceland in 2022 and has higher education posts at Anderson University, Ball State University, and Miami University. He has over 30 years of higher education experience. The transition will being immediately, and Dr. Draves will begin at Monmouth in July.
