Honesdale council approves contract for property code enforcement

After a gap in having a regular property code enforcement officer, Honesdale Borough Council on Oct. 26 approved entering into a contract with Northeast Inspection Consultants (NEIC) to conduct this service. The vote was 6-0; Councilor James Brennan was absent. In June, the council contracted with NEIC for zoning and property maintenance and building code enforcement, but due to an oversight did not include a code enforcement officer, said Councilor James Hamill, who chairs the Zoning and Code Enforcement Committee. He said he stepped into this committee role a couple months ago. The committee and borough staff have been very active in addressing needs and fielding complaints and concerns from the public, Hamill said. “I’m really starting to understand what the highest priority needs are in the community. That is huge for a volume of issues; there are a lot of people in need of making sure that the codes that are on the books are enforced,” Hamill said. Amanda Gravine, deputy open records officer, told the Tri-County Independent that since July, NEIC has been helping the borough with code enforcement when asked, although

25 Famous People You Didn’t Know Were From Sullivan County, New York

This one was interesting for me to write because when I was 17, I went to Sullivan Community College. It was basically the only college that would accept me. I wasn’t that great as a student in high school, but that’s because I wanted to be a musician, and I spent all my time practicing piano. It wasn’t because I was lazy; I just found what I wanted to do with my life, and I did that for a good 30 years.
