Scranton's McAuley Center, a Shelter for Moms and Kids, Says It's The First in the Area to Open Its Doors to Dads, Too
The new shelter in Scranton is expected to be open for fathers and families this summer. The Catherine McAuley Center began in Scranton in 1979 as a charity to support women and their children and has grown to a housing program with locations in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. But until now, homeless fathers could not turn to the shelter for a place to stay. According to the Executive Director of the McAuley Center, Krista Murray, fathers had no place to turn in this part of PA. But that will soon change when the McAuley Center opens a new shelter for homeless dads and partnered parents and their children.
