The deceased female victim of a Goodyear Heights stabbing Wednesday evening has been identified as Courtney Jones-Hunter, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Jones-Hunter was a school counselor at East CLC and worked with Akron Public Schools since 1994, said Mark Williamson, the director of marketing and communications for the district.

She was killed during an apparent domestic-related incident allegedly involving her son at a home in the 1500 block of Bronson Road Wednesday.

Akron police arrived at the scene around 4:40 p.m. to find Jones-Hunter, 59, and a 74-year-old man with multiple stab wounds, according to a news release.

Jones-Hunter was pronounced dead after emergency responders arrived to the scene. The man was rushed to Summa Health Akron City Hospital with critical injuries. Police said he is currently in stable condition.

Police said the suspect is reportedly Jones-Hunter's 40-year-old son. He sustained a non-life threatening injury to his hand and was taken into custody without incident.

The son appeared to have assaulted the victims with a knife and then called 911 to report it, police said.

Other names are being withheld pending further investigation, police said. Charges are pending.

Erich Merkle, the central office school psychologist for Akron Public Schools, said Jones-Hunter served both middle and high school students throughout her career.

He remembered her as a "thoughtful and empathetic person who touched countless lives" as a counselor.

"Ms. Jones-Hunter was celebrated as an experienced and unparalleled school counselor who was always the most vocal advocate for her students and colleagues alike," Merkle said in an email. "She was known as someone who led numerous school-based groups and also a person of faith who dutifully served her church and its ministry. Her colleagues will always cherish the tireless passion she brought to the work and the indelible positive impact she had not only in the school buildings she served but our broader District and Akron community."
