This week’s average prices for a gallon of unleaded gas in South Central Ohio average is $3.543. The average price per gallon last week $3.657. The average price a year ago, during the week of May 1was $3.482 per gallon. Pike County has the second highest average price in the state, according aaagasrices.com, with a average price of $3.631. Emergency food & shelter funds available
Vinton County has been awarded federal funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. Vinton County will receive $24,640 in Phase 41 (State Set-Aside) Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding to help local programs in the area. Local agencies chosen to receive these funds must be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice non-discrimination; have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and / or shelter programs; and if a private, voluntary organization, it must have a voluntary board. A board made up of local officials and agencies will determine how the funds awarded will be distributed. Agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program must contact the Local Board chair, Terri Fetherolf, at 740-596-3529 for an application. The application deadline is May 24, 2024.

Dog of the Week: Buster
BUSTER, 3-4-24, male American Bulldog, ~10yo, 58.2#, FOUND in Carbondale. Buster is a 10 year old American Bulldog who has not lived a life of luxury. When he came into the shelter, he was severely underweight, covered in ticks, and had nails so long it was painful to look at them. But Buster was just so wiggly and happy to be away from whatever horror he was living.

Athens company issues recall of meat sold at Nelsonville carry-out
ATHENS — The Local Butcher LLC of Athens announced a voluntary recall of meat products produced without inspection and sold at a Nelsonville facility. According to a release from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the company recalled 82.83 pounds of bacon, 48.52 pounds of peppered bacon, 15.21 pounds of bacon burgers and 89.66 pounds of whole hams due to the product being produced without the benefit of inspection and misbranding.
