Malvern woman sentenced to federal prison for bank embezzlement
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A Malvern, Iowa woman will serve time in federal prison after being convicted of embezzlement. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa reports that per court documents, Mackenzie Ann Meggison, 37, was sentenced Thursday to six months behind bars for embezzlement by a bank employee.
Fremont County Arrest Report
(Fremont Co) Two people were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Fremont County. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says on April 24th, Deputies, with assistance from the Fremont County K9 Unit, arrested 51-year-old Matthew Jeffrey Barnes and 51-year-old Serena Ann Scott, of Omaha, Nebraska in the 2300 block of Highway 2. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a non-plated vehicle. During the traffic stop, Fremont County K9 Storm was deployed and a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Barnes was also found to have a felony warrant for his arrest out of Douglas County, Nebraska. Barnes was arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute over 5 grams, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Offense, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Fugitive from Justice. He is being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond on the Fremont County charges and without bond on the Nebraska warrant. Scott was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Scott is being held at the Fremont County Jail on $1,000 cash/surety bond.
Hansen beginning next chapter, stepping back from KMA general, sales manager role
(Shenandoah) -- Another long-time figure in KMA's management team is moving on to her next chapter. Tuesday marked the final day at KMA for Sandy Hansen after over 30 years with the station's sales department, including the last 24 as sales manager. Hansen had also spent recent years overseeing KMA's general business operations. Speaking on last week's "Talk of the Town" segment, Hansen says while it felt like a good time to make the move, it is still bittersweet.
Sidney Takes Corner Conference Boy’s Golf Title as Griswold Earns Third
(Sidney, IA) – At the Corner Conference Boy’s Golf Tournament on Wednesday, it was a competition all the way down to the wire. The Sidney Cowboys were able to take a team victory with a total of 336 team points and the second and third-place individual finisher. Finishing with the top spot was Hamburg’s Keith Thompson who shot a 67. Hayden Thompson shot 72 for Sidney while Will Bryant shot an 85 for second and third for Sidney. Griswold’s Hogan Hook took the fourth-place spot with an 86 on the afternoon. Finishing in second in the team rankings was East Mills with 370, Griswold came in third at 394, Fremont Mills shot one over Griswold at 395 for fourth, and Essex/Stanton finished in fifth with 431. Short Shen council meeting ends long budget process
(Shenandoah) -- It took a little over two minutes for the Shenandoah City Council to set the city's fiscal 2025 budget. At a short special meeting Monday night, the council by a 4-0 vote approved next fiscal year's budget, with a property tax levy of approximately $16.34 per thousand dollars valuation--an increase of about $1.65 per thousand over the current fiscal year's budget. Shenandoah City Administrator A.J. Lyman attributes the city's bonded indebtedness for the slight tax increase.
MidAmerican power outage update
(Council Bluffs) -- Power is still out for KMAland residents impacted by Friday's tornadoes and severe storms. Crews worked over the weekend to tackle damage to electrical systems suffered by tornadic activity in parts of Pottwattamie County. As of 2 p.m. Sunday, more than 200 customers remained without power in Minden, one of the communities hardest hit by an EF-2 tornado that roared through the county.
