YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The return of Spring and other traditions were celebrated Saturday in Youngstown.

The fourth annual Youngstown May Day Festival kicked off Saturday at the Calvin Center.

This two-day event serves as a free, inclusive and family-friendly celebration honoring human rights, environmental justice, organized labor and several religious traditions that celebrate the return of spring.

The festival includes music, roundtable discussions and Maypole dancing.

“We opened up a call to have local people sell local items, a lot of local stuff, local authors coming in to present their research about Youngstown, local labor movements and local ecological efforts. We also have a lot of community groups here trying to get our community together, get it organized, make it a little better,” said event organizer Glenn Hall.

If you missed out on Saturday’s celebration, you’ll have another chance Sunday from noon until 6 p.m.

They will include a Worker’s Memorial Day program by the AFL-CIO to remember those who died in work-related incidents, illnesses or diseases.
