Established in 1984 and using federal grant money, EMSC is a national initiative designed to reduce child and youth morbidity and mortality in emergency situations.

Burger King remodel
Midamerica Hotels is remodeling its Burger King outlet in Cape Girardeau. Work began in mid-May and should be finished sometime in August, according to John Drury, Midamerica’s vice president of construction. He said “The store is about 14 years old and Burger King has a financial incentive program underway and the chain knows they’re the type of company that likes to keep their properties up.” Midamerica operates three dozen Burger King restaurants in four states:
Construction begins in Chaffee schools
Construction has begun on buildings in the Chaffee School District, with work expected to be completed before classes start in the fall. Superintendent Shawn Nix said the elementary and high school are undergoing renovations to become more secure. The funding is from the K.I.D.S. bond issue that passed in 2022. With this bond, both buildings will be getting updated offices and entry protocols. The office in the elementary school will be moved to the front of the building and the high school will be adding a recipients office. With these updates, the staffs will be able to control the traffic in the buildings.

Many gather together to raise funds for first responder scholarship
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Firefighters came together for a good cause in memory of late Fire Chief Ivan LaGrand. The Ivan LaGrand Memorial Scholarship fundraiser and concert was held on Sunday at Scout Hall in Cape Girardeau to raise money for local citizens and youth who would like to pursue a career as a first responder but can’t afford school or classes. Food trucks, fire trucks, and a concert were present at the event.
