Fordham Preparatory School’s Shuttle Hurdle Relay continues their season with another incredible achievement, setting a new record for the fastest time in the history of New York State.

Fordham Preparatory School upholds its distinguished athletics program with a Track & Field Hall of Fame established in the 1970s. Widely known as a breeding ground for champions, the school consistently excels in city, state, and national competitions across various teams. Their track & field division secured two New York State titles during the 2021-2022 school year alone.

A New Record Set

The Fordham Prep boys shuttle hurdles relay team showcased their skills at the New York Relay outdoor meet at Icahn Stadium located on Randall’s Island. They secured the top position, setting both a meet and state record in the process.

Three out of the four impressive athletes are Yonkers residents: Jonathan Bailey, class of 2024 with a documented time of 14.20. Followed by Christian Camara ’24 (14.74), and Aden Bedford ’24 (14.87). Alfonso Pimentel, ’24 and a Bronx resident, also scored a time of 14.98.

This officially broke the record of 59.12 set by Sheepshead Bay in 2010 making Fordham Prep number one in the United States this season.

The Fordham Prep hurdles coach Ignacio G. Febles is not only a long-time Yonkers resident but he was also awarded the prestigious Mike Byrnes Coach of the Year Award following the Nike Indoor National Championship at The Armory in March 2024.

This highly regarded award honors Coach Febles’ exemplary 30-year coaching career which has left a lasting impact on both Fordham Prep and the High School Track & Field community.

Future Championships

The New Balance Outdoor Championships take place at Franklin Field, located at the University of Pennsylvania, from June 13 to 16, 2024. The Fordham Prep team hopes to achieve All-American status once again at this upcoming summer event.
