YAKIMA, Wash. -- The YWCA of Yakima will be receiving an investment from the Ballmer Group to support economic advancement and safety of women and children.

The YWCA received $12.1 million grant to be distributed over three years, benefiting more than 55,000 people served by the YWCA.

Where's the funding going? Programs and services provided by YWCA for employment, safety and health to members in need.

"This grant helps ensure that we can continue to provide critical domestic violence services to those in need. On average, we serve over 14,000 people throughout Yakima County each year, so we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to further our mission," said Cheri Kilty, CEO of YWCA Yakima.

The investment is from Connie and Steven Ballmer's 30-year support of the Seattle YWCA, however, this is the first time YWCA's across the state have received funding from the Ballmer Group.

"Ballmer Group is pleased to partner with the YWCAs across Washington State," said Andi Smith, Executive Director for Ballmer Group Washington State and National Behavioral Health. "YWCA chapters provide crucial support to women and children and build stronger communities through their focus on housing, health and safety, and economic mobility."

Other Washington based YWCA facilities will receive funding as well:

  • YWCA Bellingham

  • YWCA Clark County

  • YWCA Kitsap County

  • YWCA North Central Washington

  • YWCA Olympia

  • YWCA Pierce County

  • YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish
