CHS Tennis Brings Home a Team 3rd, Doubles 2nd and Individual 5th at State
Information and photos released by Coach Rothlisberger. The WIAA state tennis tournament was held at the Yakima Tennis Club on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27. Junior Rylen Moody represented the Mountain Goats in boys singles, and finished 5th overall – the highest of any public school boys singles player! His medal path began with an opening round loss to Robert DeFrost of St George’s (Spokane), but it was all wins from there on out! Rylen’s 2nd match on Friday was a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Luke Chafin of Cle Elum. On Saturday, Rylen was the “comeback kid”, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Ezra Beus of Kiona-Benton and earning his 5th place medal with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Kyle Dillingham of Lakeside.

Wahkiakum High School senior Landon Nielsen is headed to the State 2B Track and Field Meet which takes place in Yakima this year on May 25, 26, and 27. Nielsen competed in three events on Friday at W.F. West High School in Chehalis at the 2B District 4 Track Meet. Nielsen did not qualify for state in the 400 meters, after finishing with a time of 57.68 and an eighth place. He will, however, compete in the shot put after a 40-7 throw earned him a sixth place finish, and in the high jump after clearing 5-6 for fourth place.
3 qualify for state track and field championship meet in Yakima
Three Quincy athletes in five different disciplines took first place at districts last weekend in Cashmere, earning spots at state. Joceline Schaapman (300-meter hurdles, long jump), Jasmine Vasquez, (100 meters, high jump) and Jayden Richards (200 meters) punched their tickets to the big dance, which will take place at Yakima’s Eisenhower High School this year, after years of taking place in Cheney.
