    Kudos for Today in History

I just want to let you know that I thoroughly enjoy the history facts each day. Upon reading them, they will spark my interest and I look up the events to learn more. When I was teaching (now retired), I would use this section in the classroom. Thank you.

Tips of the hat for Easter Egg Hunt

On March 30, my wife, Stephanie, and I hosted our annual Easter Egg Hunt at Waters Farm Preservation Inc. in Sutton. This is a free event for families across the Blackstone Valley. We had over 2,000 people join us this year to hunt over 25,000 eggs.

This is truly a community event and we could not do it without the incredible local businesses and people who sponsor it. A huge thank you to AllCare Medical Supply, Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, Brickstone Restaurant, Boy Scout Troop 243, Ben Gibbons (Sutton School Committee chair), Christine Whipple (Realtor), Concierge Physical Therapy, Country Montessori School, IBA Print Shop, Joe McKenna (state representative), Sutton Lions Club and UniBank (Sutton branch).

Many volunteers, including a number of students from schools around the area, worked together to ensure the day was a success. A big thank you to them.

A special thank you to my office staff for their help with this event — in particular, my district director, Kylie Gibbons.

Waters Farm Preservation Inc. is our wonderful host for the day and volunteers from their organization prepare the fields and facilities for this event to happen. Thank you to Paul Schaefer and Pam Farnham for their time spent on this event.

Each spring I look forward to getting to see so many families enjoy this wonderful event together. It truly is a highlight of the year for me. Be on the lookout for next year’s egg hunt as well as the other community events we host in September and December at Waters Farm.

Mill Street now a disaster course

Driving the newly designed and disastrous Mill Street, I saw a small car had slammed into the back of a pickup truck that was parked in one of the newly created parking spaces that has always been a driving lane. The front of the small car was demolished; the back of the truck smashed in. Fortunately, the driver got out.

I invite all citizens of Worcester to drive Mill Street to experience what a disaster the city can create. The right driving lane has been turned into parking and bus stop spaces, and right next to the left driving lane. Then a space with lines, then a bike route, is never used.

The danger the city has created is unthinkable. Driving from Tatnuck Square to First Street, and not familiar with the new lanes up there, the car in front of me and I somehow ended up in the right parking lane. We both realized the car ahead of us was parked. We both jolted into the left lane. Imagine this happening at night? Who would have survived that crash?

Imagine getting behind a funeral procession going 25 mph. School buses would drive in the right lane and commuters could pass on the left, stopping accordingly. No more! Try pulling out onto Mill Street during rush hour, with a line of cars crawling along.

Worcester has created a dangerous situation. If the city has any sense, this will be reversed. Mill Street will be returned to what it was, perfect.
