WOOSTER − The Wooster City Police Department is investigating the circumstances behind a body that was found Sunday at Grosjean Park.

The victim was identified Wednesday as being Melanie Atherton, 26, according to the Wayne County Coroner's Office.

"The case is still under investigation," said Chief Investigator Luke Reynolds of the Coroner’s Office.

A similar response was issued by Capt. Tony Lemmon of the Wooster Police Department.

Investigators from the office of Wayne County Coroner Amy S. Jolliff, M.D., and Wooster City Police Department responded to the scene around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The body was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, according to Reynolds.

Officials investigating the incident ask that anyone who has any information concerning the death of Atherton to contact Reynolds at 330-345-5891 or detective Bill Belcher of the Wooster Police Department at 330-287-5720.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help with funeral expenses.
