Jason LaBine, 50, Big Lake
Jason Paul LaBine died unexpectedly on July 23, 2024. He was born to Paul and Shari LaBine on October 1, 1973 in Warren, MN, the third of five children. He was raised on the farm in rural Argyle, MN where his intelligence, humor and adventurous spirit combined to make him our chief family prankster and made-up game creator, often enlisted his brothers and sisters as his ‘assistants’. Jason was a creative and talented person, who loved to make his family laugh with his funny drawings, voices and faces.

May 17, 1941 - July 24, 2024. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 3, 2024 at American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie for John Monson, 83 of Long Prairie. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. The Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Stein Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
Valoris Showalter, 84, Zimmerman
Valoris Fay Showalter, age 84 of Zimmerman, MN passed away Thursday, July 25th 2024 with family by her side after a brief battle with a massive stroke in her brain. Valoris was born at home in Flint, Michigan November 6th, 1939. She attended Lutheran Bible School after graduating from Anoka Senior High School. In 1965, Valoris and her sister Verlie felt the call to join her sister Vivian in mission work. Valoris worked alongside her sisters with babies and young children at Rose Park Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. What started out as a short-term commitment resulted in 17 years of meeting the needs of orphaned children in Mexico.

Evidence of Increased COVID Cases in St. Cloud Area
COVID cases are on the rise in the St. Cloud area. St. Cloud Public Services Director Tracy Hodel says they are seeing a spike in cases starting in early July but the uptick in cases have since plateaued. For the past few years the City of St. Cloud has been monitoring COVID cases through wastewater virus detection. Hodel says they monitor the dead virus in the wastewater that people shed. She says this includes more than just the St. Cloud metro but also encompasses surrounding communities. Hodel says the levels are similar to what was detected during the winter months.
23 Grants Awarded in Central Minnesota Totaling Over $195,000
ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- Over $195,000 has been granted through three grant rounds offered through the Central Minnesota Community Foundation. This year's Difference Maker focus was on mental health. Grants ranging between $15,000 and $20,000 went to organizations like the Center for Victims of Torture, The Village Family Service Center, and The Yes Network.
