Man charged with murder in fatal shooting at Winston-Salem tavern

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is being charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that took place at a tavern on April 28, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

At around 2:07 a.m. on April 28 , officers came to CB’s Tavern at 3870 Bethania Station Road about a shooting.

The victim, Julia Ann Shields, 37, of Winston-Salem, had already been taken to the hospital before the police arrived.

Shields died as a result of her injuries on April 29.

On Wednesday, investigators announced that Trequan Kentrell Scales, 24, of Rural Hall, was arrested by the WSPD’s SWAT team on Tuesday afternoon.

Scales is being charged with felony discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and felony murder. He is being held without bond.

The investigation into the homicide remains active and ongoing.

Investigators say that around 50 people witnessed the fatal shooting. However, witnesses at the scene have provided “little cooperation.”
