A disturbing and very shocking incident unfolded at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina earlier this week.
In a video that has been shared online shows the student allegedly slapping his female teacher multiple times during a profanity-laced outburst.
The video, which went viral on social media, captured the intense confrontation between the student and the teacher. In the video, the student can be seen taunting the teacher, asking if the slaps affected her and threatening to hit her again. The second slap knocked the teacher’s glasses off her face, yet she was able to maintain her composure.
Following the incident, the student faced legal consequences, with a secure custody order issued for three misdemeanor charges, including assault on a government official, communicating threats, and misdemeanor assault. He was eventually charged with one count of communicating threats along with two counts of misdemeanor assault, the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office announced.
“While we all agree that this incident was deplorable and outrageous to the community, and community organizations. All of us should be outraged when those who educate us can be assaulted. We should hold those who teach and educate our children to the highest regard. Our hope and our prayer at the FCSO, is that we recognize, that we as a community, must bring order not only to our community but our children. We are praying for wholeness for those students who witnessed this and the educator involved. Thank you to all who have given their support, and a special thanks Mr. Jim O’Niell of the District Attorney’s office. The office of the people, is committed to the safety of our teachers, this community, and all that dwell and work in Forsyth County.” – Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr.
Meanwhile, the school district has also condemned the student’s behavior.
“This behavior will not be tolerated. At no time is it acceptable for students to put their hands on a teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools,” Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus said, according to WXII. “My focus now is on making sure that our teacher is taken care of and has the support needed to navigate through the lasting effects of this incident.”
The identifies of the student and teacher has not been publicly shared. As of right now, it is also unclear what started the confrontation.
