Farhad Deihim , a 41-year-old Lehigh Acres, Florida man accused of cheating on his fiancée, has been arrested for shooting the family dog in the face while being confronted about being unfaithful.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call on April 22. Authorities said that the Florida man had been accused of cheating and his fiancée told him that she wanted to leave him. Her comments then prompted the man to allegedly pull out a firearm and threaten her and two minor family members with the weapon.
During the incident, after being accused of cheating, the Florida man was accused of shooting the family dog, a pit bull mix named Louie. According to police, the man allegedly fired a single 9mm round and the bullet entered through the back of the family dog’s neck and exited through his nose. When the dog was discovered hiding behind a couch by responding officers, the dog was left bleeding from the neck and nose.
Upon police arrival, the two minor family members were safely removed from the home as the Florida man surrendered to responding officers without further incident. After being taken into custody, the man was charged with felonious animal cruelty and is said to possibly face additional charges. If convicted, Deihim will be added to Lee County’s animal abuse registry and will be prohibited from owning a dog for the next five years.
The family dog was also taken to a local area veterinary center and is expected to make a full recovery from the gunshot wound. Authorities said that Louie “showed no aggression and simply wanted to be loved,” and he is now being cared for at Lee County Domestic Animal Services.
Speaking on the incident, Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated, “We will absolutely protect those that cannot protect themselves… children, the elderly and animals. I say it time and time again. You abuse an animal in Lee County and you will go to jail. You will be charged to the fullest extent of the law.”
Sheriff Marceno added, “Even with this life-threatening injury, Louie was sweet and loving to everyone that he encountered. Veterinarians are saying that Louie will make a full recovery, but will need some time to fully heal. Our friends at Lee County Domestic Animal Services are caring for Louie and are reporting that he is socializing well.”
