(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds signed two law bills requiring insurance companies to cover diagnostic exams for cancer detection and biomarker testing. The legislation aims to address Iowa’s high cancer rate, making it the second-highest in the nation. These measures received strong bipartisan support and will significantly impact cancer survivors like Maria Steele, who emphasized the importance of biomarker testing in tailoring effective treatments. IA Athletes Caught In Sting Sue State; Agencies
Attorneys for more than two dozen Iowa and Iowa State athletes who were ensnared in a state gambling sting have filed a civil lawsuit seeking unspecified monetary damages from the state and its public safety and criminal investigation agencies for violating the athletes’ constitutional rights and damaging their reputations. The lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in Des Moines and names as plaintiffs 17 athletes from Iowa, eight from Iowa State and one from Ellsworth Community College. The athletes are asking for punitive damages on top of compensatory damages and attorney fees.

Two hotel properties sold in Des Moines metro area
Midwest IA Hotels LLC, located in Clive, paid Shree Laxmi Narayan Inc. $3.5 million for property at 1600 N.W. 114th St. in Clive, Polk County real estate records show. The hotel, which operates as a Days Inn, was built on a 2.60-acre parcel in 1989. The three-story building incudes 131 units. The property is valued at $2.7 million. The transaction was recorded April 22.
