DES MOINES, Iowa — Summer is almost here and cities around the metro are looking to fill seasonal job positions. Most cities have already filled the majority of their seasonal positions but there are still some left:

Des Moines – Des Moines has open positions for lifeguards, summer camp staff, and public park maintenance.

Ankeny – Ankeny has 30 open lifeguard positions for its aquatic centers and 10 other positions for various parks and rec and public works jobs.

West Des Moines – West Des Moines has 40 open positions for a variety of parks and recreation jobs.

Johnston – Johnston has two public works positions available for this summer.

Waukee – Waukee has all of its summer openings full but is still looking for people to fill positions in the fall.

Urbandale – Urbandale has three internship positions open in its engineering department.

Clive – Clive has positions open for a public works technician.

Katie McGrane, the Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics for the City of Ankeny, said lifeguarding positions take longer to fill.

“I think a lot of the reason lifeguard positions are open is people are starting to realize the gravity of the job of lifeguarding. Lifeguarding entails a lot of physical effort, physical exertion throughout the summer but the more you’re able to get the word out there and say hey that’s only 5% of the job the rest of it is just showing up to work and enjoying your work and the people you work with,” McGrane said.
