New cafe, Moss Culinary Studio, coming to downtown Eugene
Katie Moss and Cody MacFadyen are planning to turn the former Poppi's Anatolia into a comfortable cafe. They're taking their baked goods from the farmer's market booth to 992 Willamette St., which they hope to open in May. Moss and MacFayden met in Seattle, where they were both working in the corporate world. Moss had always been interested in cooking and baking, but held her passion on the back burner to advance her career. She and MacFayden both found their jobs to be draining, and after a life-altering car accident, realized that lifestyle was no longer right for them. "I just realized that I didn't want to be waking up and working 16 hours a day for this," she said. "So I quit, and found the farm, and really got turned on to the things that I care about." After the accident, Moss and MacFayden spent time in hospitals and nursing homes and had to relearn to walk. When Moss got out of the hospital and wasn't working, she reached out to her favorite local farm to see if they needed help at the farmers market. They said yes, and her new path started to come into focus. After being

It’s Jeffrey’s World
With a list of albums and comic book projects to his name, anti-folk singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lewis is the kind of New York City artist you might not expect exists anymore — driven extinct by finance bros and tech oligarchs. Lewis and his band The Voltage perform March 1 at WOW Hall, supporting last year’s album The EVEN MORE Freewheelin’ Jeffrey Lewis. Musically, Lewis is a classic singer-songwriter. The songs’ croaky-voiced folk raps are delivered with humor and poignancy, straddling ’60s Greenwich Village coffee shop vibes with CBGBs punk rock. On Freewheelin’, Lewis, now 50, and typically something of a puckish Peter Pan, confronts mortality and the end of a relationship. As only Lewis could, he uses movie-watching as a metaphor for an insurmountable gap between him and his partner — he watches; she conks out immediately. Lewis sings, “We love to be together, that’s for certain/ There’s deep communication in our hearts/ But when each morning we discuss Hitchcock or Bergman/ We only talk about the way each movie starts.” Lewis says he maintains his born and raised anachronistic Bohemian lifestyle in co-op housing, and he’s cautiously optimistic about New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. “One thing very exciting to me — as a blue state liberal, typical cosmopolitan, Democrat type — is just to see a wave of enthusiasm for somebody who has a lot of left-wing policies, and who has an attitude and a plan,” Lewis says. Eugene indie rockers ExWife support Lewis at the WOW Hall.

What's coming to the old Poppi's Anatolia in downtown Eugene?
Some might say 992 Willamette St. has a feel of "old Eugene." Warm wooden buildouts, high ceilings, and quirky charm are some of the features of the property, which housed Poppi's Anatolia until the business recently moved to the 5th Street Market. Now, the space's new tenants are moving in. Katie Moss and Cody MacFadyen are planning to turn the familiar property into a comfortable cafe, while still keeping its warm and whimsical vibe intact. In other foodie news, Alesong is releasing five new beers at the end of February, with flavors that will excite even the most discerning of palates. Moss Culinary Studio to open on Willamette Katie Moss and Cody MacFadyen opened Moss Culinary Studio together in a commissary kitchen in January 2025. Just over a year later, the pair is making more big plans. The couple is turning their farmers market booth into a brick-and-mortar business, which they hope to open in May.
